Did the National Anthem in Aamir Khan’s Dangal make you stand up?

Did the National Anthem in Aamir Khan’s Dangal make you stand up?

Many didn't like the idea of National Anthem in Dangal.

Did the National Anthem in Aamir Khan’s Dangal make you stand up?

Aamir Khan’s Dangal has been lapped up by the audience around the world. Right from Aamir Khan’s performance as Mahavir Singh Phogat, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as Geeta and Babita Phogat, their younger versions in Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar, Sakshi Tanwar as his wife or Aparshakti Khurrana as his nephew, are being loved by one and all. But as they say bouqets and brickbats go hand in hand, many weren’t happy with the fact that (SPOILER ALERT) National Anthem was a part of the film itself, leave alone before the screening, as has been diktated by Supreme Court of India. Supreme Court’s reasoning was quite unreasonable to say the least as according to them it will instill a sense of committed patriotism and nationalism in citizens. How will I get a patriotic feeling if I am going for a film like Great Grand Masti or even an erotica like Hate Story 3. But that’s a story for another day.
While watching Dangal, people weren’t sure what to make of it. Whether to stand or not to? That was the question. They took to Twitter to express their opinion. Check it out below:

And as far as one can remember National Anthem has been a part of quite a few films in the past and unlike Dangal, those films didn’t even tackle with the theme of patriotism in any way. Remember that scene from Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham? The scene where Hrithik Roshan’s character teaches their son about Indian National Anthem and Kajol-SRK both get teary upon hearing their son singing the same. Similarly in 2008 release Krazzy 4, where Arshad Warsi, Irrfan, Rajpal Yadav and Suresh Menon are being chased by goons, when they enter a mall where National Anthem is being played. The leads are saved by the fact that the goons doesn’t stay still and had to face the ire of general public. Now that was a smart move on the parts of the makers. That’s how you embed a National Anthem in the film. But one thing that I clearly remember was the fact that no one in the theatre where I was watching Krazzy 4 stood up.
Did the use of National Anthem in Dangal made you stand? And should it be used at all as a part of movies? Let us know in the comments section below.
