Last year, Aamir Khan made a gaffe, a huge one at that. During a forum, he was asked about whether India is becoming increasingly intolerant, after an incident involving the lynching of a man in UP became big news. Aamir Khan admitted that India was becoming intolerant, but he made a blunder when he revealed his wife asked him whether they should leave the country. While the context in which he had said the statement may not be intentionally anti-national, the adverse reactions he got for his statement was tremendous. I myself believe that he made a overstatement (for which he later apologised), but it was something that had to be criticised and done away with. He may not have spoken anything untrue about the rising intolerance in India (which was being proved from time to time), but his ‘leaving India’ statement was uncalled for. But even if he made one unnecessary statement, it doesn’t mean he has committed any kind of treason. But a few right wing political parties and supporters have called him anti-national and many of them asked him and Kiran Rao to migrate to Pakistan. It was a total BS reaction, but we thought over the months, the sentiment must have died down. Looks like it hasn’t…
On the day of his new movie, Dangal‘s release, a new hashtag was seen trending – #BoycottDangal. There seems to be people who are not willing to let go of Aamir’s old statement, and wants to boycott the movie because they feel he is not ‘patriotic’ and has no care for the country.
Here are some of the reactions…

He himself doesn't know how 2 respect Motherland then how can he give message of women empowerment? It's all about the money  pic.twitter.com/pIaMjSkMjZ
I will not waste my single money on @aamir_khan and teach him a lesson of intolerance &
While I am no one to question a person’s national integrity, if these people wants to boycott Dangal, it’s their loss actually. For Dangal is one of the best movies of this year, if not the best. Thankfully, there was some sane voices among the boycott calls…
So  is trending. OK we will boycott this trend by watching it thrice...Thank you for giving us more reasons to watch it.🙌

Tempted 2 watch, but nation comes first

Bigots like @aamir_khan need to be taught a lesson
Whether you are among the team that wants to boycott the movie or not, the decision is upto you. But then you better don’t complain why people never make good movies in Bollywood. Be happy with stuff like Dhoom 3 and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Happy New Year.
As a true Bollywood movie buff and a patriotic Indian, this stupid stance of boycotting movies makes no sense. Dangal is a movie that merges patriotism, spirit of sports and women empowerment. Isn’t that enough for us to let go of one irresponsible statement?
