Dangal is off to a great start at the box office, having grossed Rs 64.60 crores in just two days at the domestic box office. Featuring Aamir Khan’s best performance in years, Dangal is a biopic based on real-life former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who had trained his daughters to reach international level glory in the arena of female wrestling. The movie, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is already predicted by many trade analysts to overcome PK’s, another Aamir Khan starrer, collections to become the highest grosser of all time when it comes to Indian cinema.
While that is still a long way ahead, Dangal is all set to enter the Rs 100 crore club within the matter of just a couple of days, perhaps even tomorrow if luck in favour of the movie. However, it still has failed to beat the two day collections of this year’s Sultan. Salman Khan’s blockbuster hit, which is also based around the sport of wrestling, had collected Rs 73.7 crores in two days. It has the second day collections of Rs 37.2 crores, which is also more than what Dangal has collected i.e. Rs 34.82 crores.
While Salman Khan’s Sultan, which is also the biggest hit of the year, has enjoyed the advantage of being released around Eid, Dangal has to be appreciated for raking in so much money despite the country suffering from demonetisation crunch. And with all the good reviews pouring in for the movie, we are sure the movie is going to soar more in the days to come, especially as it’s Christmas holidays and there are no major releases in Bollywood to compete with Dangal in the following weeks. In short, it has a clear road ahead to gain more mileage and drive in superfast mode.
Dangal also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra and Aparshakti Khurrana.
