Now if you have seen Dangal, you would be knowing that Shah Rukh Khan has an important role in the movie.

Did Aamir Khan take a sly dig at Shah Rukh Khan in Dangal?

Aamir Khan’s Dangal brings 2016 to a winning end. The movie is everything we expect from an Aamir Khan flick – great performances, good drama and compelling scenes motivated by an underlying inspirational message. Now Dangal is a biopic based on the life of the former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat who trains his daughters, Geeta and Babita in the same arena he was forced to abandon, and make them represent India at the international level. The movie is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, which is his first solo venture after co-directing Chillar Party with Vikas Bahl. Sakshi Tanwar plays Aamir Khan’s wife in the movie, while Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra play adult Geeta and Babita. Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar play their younger selves. Believe me, all these actors have given their best performances in the movie, but ultimately it is Aamir Khan who will emerge the true winner.
Now if you have seen Dangal, you would be knowing that Shah Rukh Khan finds a mention in the movie. No, Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t have a cameo in here, but he still plays an important plot element in increasing the drama of the film. Here’s how…
When Geeta becomes the national champion in female wrestling, she gets inducted into the sports academy to get trained at the international level. There, she is finally out of her father’s rigorous training methods, and finds a friend on the first day, who tells her Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is being screened on TV and they should watch it together. Having been made to stay away from cinema by her father till then, Geeta is reluctant at first, but her friend says ‘Shah Rukh ko kabhi na nahi bolte (No one says no to Shah Rukh)!’ Geeta relents and watches the movie with her friend and team-mates, and we see that famous palat scene from DDLJ. We also observe that Geeta is looking mesmerised on seeing SRK on screen.
Now, on the face of it, the scene appears to pay a tribute to Shah Rukh Khan and his romantic image. But is it? We really don’t think so…
If you reevaluate the entire scene after watching the movie, the SRK scene is the beginning of the downfall of the sportsperson in Geeta, as she begins to take her training a bit too lightly. This later affects her performance in the sports arena, where she loses several of her international matches, while also undermining her father’s training methods. So that entire scene is set up in the way to feel like Shah Rukh Khan is made to be that forbidden fruit Geeta’s friend asks her to bite, that later leads to her to slowly lose her conviction. He is that piece of delicious chocolate that no one can resist, but it ultimately is not good for your health. So what is the movie trying to say? Watching Shah Rukh Khan movies will lead you to lose touch with your goals and convictions?
Now perhaps I may be reading too much into this, but knowing Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s hot-and-cold relationship, any sense can be made out of that scene. What do you
