Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur have recreated the magic Dulquer Salmaan and Nitya Menon cast on us in OK Kanmani. The trailer of Shaad Ali’s OK Jaanu released today morning and ever since then, everybody has been raving about it. Just like during Aashiqui 2, the two actors have sustained the romance element even now. The story of OK Jaanu is very clear in the trailer itself as we have it figured out. But the execution of the story is what sets it apart, or does it? Just like Saathiya, Ali once again recreates a Mani Ratnam film by making sure every frame and scene is a carbon copy of it’s original Tamil version. He proved himself in the Rani Mukerji-Vivek Oberoi starrer itself that he can bring life to the rendition of his guru’s work and set the box office ringing.
Once again, with OK Jaanu, as I have watched the Tamil version as well, I couldn’t help but notice the striking similarities with OK Kanmani. For all those who don’t know, Kanmani means precious or darling and the synonyms go on and on. While the Hindi remake calls it OK Jaanu, the Tamil version’s full form is O Kadhal Kanmani, which means O the apple of my eye and once again the synonyms go on. Anyway, let’s not digress and get back how Shaad Ali has directed the film frame by frame a proper remake of the Tamil film. Be it the cute kiss they share or the crazy bike ride they venture on or even the scenic capturing of Mumbai city, it’s all very well made. We found out 6 stills from the trailer of OK Jaanu that’s exactly like the OK Kanmani. Check them out below.

As a millennial and a South Indian, I watched the Mani Ratnam film as he tread new paths of romance. Of course, I was freaking out when I found out the film was about to be remade in Hindi titled OK Jaanu. Not just me, any person who has watched OK Kanmani would feel the same way. Some films are so good that remakes just ruin the original films. Hence, the worry that Ali may not do justice to the magic created by Ratnam left me prowling. However, thank god for Shraddha and Adi’s cute chemistry. It has managed to sustain the essence of romance in the time of error in commitment. I for one, can’t wait to watch this film and see if Shraddha and Adi have been able to encapsulate what Dulquer and Nitya did!
