The latest entry into the long list of classic songs that has been recreated for a film or single is AR Rahman’s 1995 chartbuster Hamma Hamma from Mani Ratnam’s Bombay. The song has been recreated for Shaad Ali’s OK Jaanu. The original was composed by AR Rahman and was sung by Remo Fernandes and filmed on the leads of Bombay, Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala with a number of side dancers along with Sonali Bendre. On the other hand the latest version is recreated by Badshah, Tanishk Bagchi and is picturised on Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor.
In the original video, the lead pair checks into a shady hotel after Manisha misses her train and the two get into a sensuous mode as they are in love. The song had everything going in its favour be it the chemistry between its lead pair, the foot tapping tune by AR Rahman, the energetic voice of Remo Fernandes or the sultry Sonali Bendre.
On the other hand, the song from OK Jaanu features the lead pair of Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. Instead of the sensuous chemistry of the original lead, they indulge and break into a playful and naughty dance. Their chemistry looks more of that between two friends rather than the two lovers. The recreated version is bit on a slower note than the original one.
BollywoodLife in its music video review mentioned that the song is all about Aditya Roy Kapoor’s hotness. “The choreography of the song too is such an added tease that forget hitting the dance floor, there are moments where you’ll just want to sit and stare at Adi’s sexiness.”, said the review.
