Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa passed away at 11:30 PM on December 5, 2016. The nation is mourning this loss. We truly have lost a gem, and it could not be replaced. The Iron Lady suffered a cardiac arrest and had been in critical condition since yesterday. Followers had gathered outside the Apollo hospital,  and the country was praying for Amma’s health. But unfortunately, the doctors couldn’t save her despite of doing everything they can.
Jayalalithaa before moving into politics was a  very famous actress in Tamil cinema during the 60’s and 70’s. She was a superstar.
Jayalalithaa’s acting career began with an English play Epistle in 1961. She then acted in over 140 films including 60 Tamil films. Her mother Sandhya had motivated her to take up acting at the mere age of 15.
Jayalalithaa’s first Tamil film was Vennira Aadai in 1965. She made a major career move when she shifted to Tamil industry when she made her debut in Vennira Aadai. There is one ironic anecdote related to this movie that can amuse you till date. It was the first film since 1951, to be rated as Adults Only and Jayalalithaa could not watch her film being an underage. The CBFC raised objection over a scene where the actress drenches in a waterfall.
Her streak of successful films include Ayirathil Oruvan, Kudi Iruntha Kovil, Gallata Kalyanam, Adimai Penn, Oli Villaku and Deiva Magan.
