Dangal: CBFC gives Aamir Khan’s film U certificate and ZERO cuts

Aamir Khan’s sports based drama Dangal is all set for a release, now that it also has been cleared by the CBFC. The Nitesh Tiwari directed film is a wholesome family entertainer, and is releasing on December 21. The film, based on the life of Mahaveer Phogat, caters to audiences of all ages. And no wonder CBFC has given the film a U certificate, and zero cuts.
It’s quite a feat that in this era when CBFC is known for chopping off parts of movies, Dangal got cleared with zero cuts. Earlier in the year another wrestling based film Sultan had released. The film featured Salman Khan in the lead role and despite of being a family oriented film, received a U/A certificate from the CBFC. This, said reports, was in keeping with the ‘violent spirit’ of wrestling.
Earlier during an interview with HT, Aamir had hoped that Dangal would get a U certificate. “It’s a universal film, it is about children, kids, it’s the story of a family. Ours will be more of a family film. I think it will be a ‘U’ film,” he said. Dangal also stars Fatima Saina Shaikh and Sania Malhotra play Aamir’s daughters Geeta and Babita respectively, and Sakshi Tanwar plays his wife. The story revolves around Mahavir, who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat. Aamir will be seen playing both younger and older characters of Phogat in the film, and he had put on weight up to 95 kg to play the older part and is currently in the process of bringing it down to around 70 kg.
