Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma’s Pakistani characters changed to Indian in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – we have proof!
Karan Johar might not replace Fawad
Khan or delete the Pakistani heartthrob's portions in Ae Dil Hai
Mushkil, but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma's characters have
gotten a transformation ahead of the film's release.
Yes, that’s the effect of the ongoing
political tension between the warring nations of India and Pakistan.
Karan Johar might not replace Fawad Khan or delete the Pakistani
heartthrob’s portions in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma’s characters have gotten a transformation ahead of the film’s release. The
two ladies Alizeh (Anushka) and Saba Taliyar Khan (Aishwarya) were
originally supposed to be Pakistanis in Karan’s this directorial
venture. How do we know you ask? Well, the film’ costume designer Manish
Malhotra in an earlier interview had revealed some very important
details about their characters, which confirmed these characters
nationality in the movie.
Manish had said in an interview to Filmfare last month, “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is going to be that film where the characters – Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan are
all dressed as people abroad but who are making a statement.
Especially, in Anushka’s and Aishwarya’s case, it’s high street fashion
mixed with labels. Both play Pakistani girls and their style has a mix
of the cultures. ADHM is a film close to my heart. ” Clearly
Manish who was onboard from the beginning knew his characters very well.
However, in a recent interview Malhotra indirectly confirmed that Karan
has bowed down to the political pressure.
Manish Malhotra in a more recent chat with Elle revealed that Anushka
plays the character of a Muslim girl from Lucknow. He said, “Anushka
plays a Muslim girl from Lucknow in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
We have blended traditional and modern details throughout the movie.
For her bridal look, we kept in mind the cultural direction of what a
modern Muslim girl would opt for.”
Clearly, there have been alterations made in the movie to adhere to
the changed norms in India today. The film is already embroiled in a
major political controversy post the Uri attacks. The Maharashtra
Navnirman Sena has asked for a ban on Karan’s this venture, while IMPPA
(Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association) is trying to resolve the
issue with the political party and has even sent out a written letter to
PM Narendra Modi requesting for these films to release and cancel
Pakistani artistes work permit on an immediate basis.
