Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil BEATS Salman Khan’s Sultan to have the costliest ticket ever
Salman Khan‘s Sultan was one of the BIGGEST release of the year. It went on a record breaking run and shook the entire nation. However, Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is one of the most anticipated films of 2016 too. In fact, the buzz around the movie is sky high, so much so that the makers have decided to price the film exorbitantly. In fact, Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has BEATEN Salman Khan’s Sultan to claim the costliest ticket ever. Don’t believe us? Well, let me inform you that PVR Director’s Cut in Delhi always has the costliest tickets. During Sultan‘s release, PVR Director’s Cut was offering VIP tickets for Rs 1800, but when we checked the prices for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil just now, we were SHOCKED! The multiplex is charging Rs 2200 for a VIP (now Platinum Superior) seat. Surprising na?
So will Ae Dil Hai Mushkil be able to break the records that Sultan has set? Well, we don’t think so! While Sultan had a solo release, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is set to clash with Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay and hence the money will be divided. However, our trade expert Amul Mohan revealed to us that both the films will open well. He mentioned to us exclusively, “Friday is a non-holiday. So on such a day, you can expect around 25 crore, a cumulative amount for both the films. Even though Friday isn’t a holiday, the spirit of it is around. Kids have holidays because of Diwali. It can go up to 30 crore as well but 25 crore is the bare minimum for the both movies to do. So it will be a race between them. If it’s 25 crore, we are ideally looking at 12.5 crore each for day 1. It will be very close.” Anyway, check out the screenshots of the costliest ticket prices of ADHM and Sultan right here:

The exorbitant ticket prices may give Ae Dil Hai Mushkil an edge over Shivaay, but it might have a negative impact on it too, right? As Exhibitor and distributor – Akshaye Rathi mentioned to us earlier, “It (This exorbitant pricing) is not for milking the audience but for maximising the profit before piracy kicks in. Rs 900 per ticket plus popcorn, coke and conveyance is too much to spend for a few people. But having said that, the people who want to see the film, will watch it.
But, trade expert and Editor of Super Cinema, Amul Mohan has a different take. He revealed to us earlier, “No, that’s never going to happen. Now-a-days, it is a norm for the multiplexes to hike the prices (during the release of such a big film). They want to cash in on these big films, so that’s why you see these crazy big numbers. It is not something that would affect a movie. If a person is waiting to see a movie since a very long time, they would probably want to spend Rs 1000 on a ticket for a big film, rather than a smaller film. Smaller films don’t have a big price tag. It is become a norm now. However, I personally feel that ticket pricing should be standardised. A Sairat made Rs 100 crores with tickets worth just Rs 100. Had they hiked their prices, sky would be the limit for them.”
