Phillauri trailer: Anushka Sharma’s comic horror film is full of cliches
The first trailer of Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh starrer Phillauri is out.
Anushka Sharma is back with her second production venture Phillauri.
The film is scheduled to release on March 24, and the first trailer
just dropped in. Shot extensively in Punjab, the film features Diljit
Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma, Mehreen Pirzada and Anushka in key roles.
Directed by debutant Anshai Lal and written by Anvita Dutt, the film’s
shoot had begun on Baisakhi last year and the shooting wrapped in
June. Co-produced by Fox Star Studios and Clean Slate Films – Anushka’s
production banner with brother Karnesh Sharma Phillauri is a romantic-horror set in Phillaur.
The trailer starts on a good note but later goes into the cliched territory of those old school comic horrors, where a ghost returns to the world of humans for an unfulfilled desire. The trailer has a few funny moments in the initial half but as mentioned above goes into the cliched, done to death territory i.e in order to get rid of the ghost you have to help it fulfill its last wish. A similar story was seen in Amitabh Bachchan’s Bhoothnath or even Shah Rukh Khan’s Chamatkar. However, the plot is clearly a rip-off of Johnny Depp’s Corpse Bride.
Anushka Sharma’s first home production was NH 10. The movie starred Anushka, Neil Bhoopalam and Darshan Kumar in lead roles. The thriller received good response at the box-office, and garnered mixed-to-positive reviews. In NH 10 Anushka played an urban woman who gets in trouble with a gang of violent men from rural Haryana when she and her husband witness a honour killing. After playing the badass role who gets revenge on the men who wronged her, she is out to play a ghost in Phillauri. Diljit Dosanjh who made the female population crazy for him with Udta Punjab is seen in a uber hot avatar in the trailer, a certain treat for the eyes for his fan following.
