7 times Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar nearly made their debut in movies that never took off
In this special feature, we will look at those Bollywood actors whose debut movies got derailed but they got another, and perhaps in some cases, far better starts to their Bollywood careers.
Sometimes Life promises you oranges but give you apples, or it can be the other way round, depending on which fruit you prefer. Well,
what I meant to say was that sometimes you plan to settle for less, but
instead Life gives you a better and more awesome opportunity to start
over. Not always, but Life can sometimes not be a bitch. Take a look at
some of the Bollywood celebs. Some of them get really glittery debut
like Tusshar Kapoor (Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai), Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and
Sidharth Malhotra (Student of the Year), Tiger Shroff (Heropanti) etc.
Then there are actors who started off on a no glitzy notes before they
grabbed the big tree like Shah Rukh Khan (In Which Annie Gives It To
Those Ones), Aamir Khan (Holi), Salman Khan (Biwi Ho Toh Aisi), Emraan
Hashmi (Footpath), Madhuri Dixit (Abodh) and so on.
In this special feature, we will look at those Bollywood actors whose debut movies got derailed but they got another, and perhaps in some cases, far better starts to their Bollywood careers. Here are seven such actors/actresses…
Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik Roshan had one of the best debuts ever for a star kid, with Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai becoming a blockbuster on release and Roshan Jr. elevated to superstar status with just one release. However not many knew that he was supposed to make his debut with Oscar nominee Shekhar Kapur’s youthful romance, Tara Rum Pum. But like many of Shekhar Kapur’s aborted projects, even this never moves from planning stages. Guess who was the heroine to Hrithik Roshan? He close friend and heroine in a couple of movies, Preity Zinta (also supposed to make her debut here).
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone has the best of the starts for a person not from a filmy background in Om Shanti Om, something even her co-star Shah Rukh Khan never had the fortune to have. However, if Hera Pheri director Priyadarshan had his way, then Deepika Padukone would have made her movie debut with his movie. The said movie was a fight against music piracy and Deepika Padukone played a member of a music band in this. For some reason, the director felt the movie was not relevant in the current times, and the plan was dropped.
Arjun Kapoor
Arjun Kapoor has a critically acclaimed debut in the rustic, violent take on Romeo and Juliet with Ishaqzaade. He was launched by the prestigious Yash Raj Films, a great platform for any newcomer – ask Ranveer Singh. However, they actually had a very different launchpad for him, as they wanted to launch him through their youth banner Y-Films with a movie called Virus Diwan. The movie never took off, even though they shot a teaser for the same, and Arjun made his debut with Ishaqzaade.
Abhishek Bachchan
His debut movie, Refugee, may have been a dud, but it was one of the grandest launchpads a debutant can ask for. It was directed by JP Dutta, who gave a blockbuster in Border before and the scale for the movie was big. However before Refugee, Abhishek Bachchan was supposed to be launched by JP Dutta in another project, Aakhri Mughal, that was based on the relationship between the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar and his son, who was supposed to be played by Abhishek. Interestingly, Bipasha Basu was also rumoured to make her debut in the movie opposite Abhishek.
Kangana Ranaut
Before Pahlaj Nihalani became all sanskari being the current chairman of CBFC, his stint as a producer was not so sanskari. One of his shelved productions, a seazy B-grade movie called ‘I Love You Boss, has the below as the poster…
Not only was the above poster a ripoff of Showgirls, but the girl featured in it was, believe it or not, Kangana Ranaut. Thankfully, the said movie didn’t take off, and the three-time National award winning actress made a better debut in Gangster.
Akshay Kumar
If you don’t count his seven second appearance in Kumar Gaurav’s Aaj, Akshay Kumar made a proper debut in Saugandh. But even that wasn’t supposed to be a debut. Recently an article broke out about a former movie producer Ravi Srivastava sent out a message for help from Akshay Kumar, did we realise that Akshay was supposed to make his debut with his movie, called Dwarpal.
The movie never took off beyond the below muhurat shot, and the poor producer have been seeing bad days since then.
Disha Patani
Disha Patani, rumoured girlfriend of Tiger Shroff, had made her debut last year with MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. She is also making headlines for her racy photoshoot for Dabboo Ratnani’s 2017 calendar, as well as her appearance in Jackie Chan’s Kung Fu Yoga. However, a few knew that she was to make her debut with an adult comedy called No Sex Please, We are Indians, that was to be produced by Karan Johar. Here was a still from the movie…
The movie was to be directed by Sonam Nair, and Pulkit Samrat was supposed to be the male lead in it. However the bold subject of the movie made him drop from the movie, and it never found a replacement for the actor, before Karan Johar pulled the plug from the project.
