Ram Gopal Varma is ready to make a big splash with his upcoming movie, Sarkar 3. There
was a time when Ram Gopal Varma was one of the most sought after
directors in the industry. He had given us many memorable gems like
Rangeela, the underrated Daud, Satya, Jungle, Kaun, Company and a couple
of others before he lost hi plot. Sarkar, his take on Godfather, was
one of his last acclaimed movies before he began to deliver duds like
Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, Nishabd, Agyaat. Sarkar was also his first
collaboration with Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan,
whose huge fan the maverick director is. Many feel that it is his super
awe for Amitabh Bachchan (and obsession with Nisha Kothari) that lead
to RGV’s downfall in Bollywood, and going by his filmography after
Sarkar, we can’t help but agree.
Sarkar had a sequel, Sarkar Raj, which was not as critically acclaimed but still was a decent hit at the box office. Now RGV will perhaps close the franchise as a trilogy with the third part, Sarkar 3. Amitabh Bachchan will surely return as Sarkar, however his son Abhishek Bachchan (who died in the sequel) and daughter in law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (who came solely for the sequel) are not paying any roles in the threequel. Instead, it will have some new members in the form of Yami Gautam, Amit Sadh (who has worked with RGV in Phoonk 2), Jackie Shroff and Manoj Bajpayee. Interestingly, Manoj Bajpayee is playing a character similar to Arvind Kejriwal. Others in the cast include Rohini Hattangadi and Ronit Roy.
Eros International presents Sarkar 3, releasing on 7th April 2017, produced by Alumbra Entertainment, Wave Cinemas & AB Corp.
