Fardeen Khan, Chandrachur Singh, Mukul Dev – Take a look at the debutants of the late 90s and where are they now

Recently in an interview to The Huffington post, Bobby Deol reminisced about his lost stardom, lack of film offers being, sort of, betrayed by filmmakers, his financial stability and most importantly his DJ-ing skills etc. The interview was one of the most candid ones I’ve come across and Bobby Deol spoke his heart out. Who could’ve imagined that suddenly Bobby Deol who debuted in 1995 and was missing from the Bollywood scene, for a while now, will be a relevant and talk of the town in 2017. This opened the pandora’s box of other debutants who made their debut around the same time ie the late 90s and are not that visible nowadays. Now that we are aware of Bobby Deol’s whereabouts and the fact that he’s trying to make a comeback with Shreyas Talpade’s Sunny Deol starrer Poster Boys, a remake of Marathi hit, Poshter Boys, let’s take a look at other actors who debuted around same time and were either a one hit wonder, or have retired from Bollywood or are doing character roles. Yes I am talking about the likes of Fardeen Khan, Dino Morea, Chandrachur Singh etc and what are they doing now:
Mukul Dev
Debut – He made his big debut in Sushmita Sen’s launch vehicle Dastak. The film boasted off some of the chartbuster songs but the film tanked at the box office.
Mukul-Deo
Last seen – After resurrecting his career with Yamla Pagla Deewana, he has been a regular in Punjabi as well as Hindi films. He was last seen in Punjabi film Zorawar and Hindi film Bhaag Johnny. He’ll next be seen in Sunny Deol’s Bhaiyajee Superhit.
Sharad Kapoor
Debut – His breakout role was in Sushmita Sen’s Dastak. He was the antagonist to Mukul Dev’s protagonist. The film didn’t work at the box office but his acting chops were noticed. His most notable role till date remains his turn as Prakash in Shah Rukh Khan’s Josh, where both Shah Rukh and he played rival gang leaders.
Sharad-Kapoor
Last seen – He was last seen in Salman Khan’s Jai Ho as a corrupt Police officer.
Puru Raajkumar
Debut – Son of legendary Raajkumar made his debut in Bal Bramhachari opposite Karisma Kapoor. The film was much talked about upon its release but sank without a trace. He got rejected as the lead right away but a comeback of sorts, four years later as a negative lead in Anil Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai got him critical acclaim. He later was seen in multistarrers like LOC Kargil, Umrao Jaan and Salman Khan’s Veer.
Puru-Raj-Kumar
Last seen – He was last seen as the corrupt cop in Ajay Devgn’s Action Jackson.
Chandrachur Singh
Debut – He made his big debut in Amitabh Bachchan’s first production Tere Mere Sapne, alongside Arshad Warsi. The film was a success. Later that year he played the main lead in Gulzar’s Maachis. The film won him Filmfare best debut actor award. And he was considered the next big thing.
ChandraChur-Singh
Last seen – He was last seen in a prominent role in Chaar Din Ki Chandni and later a cameo in Sanjay Dutt-Arshad Warsi starrer Zila Ghaziabad. However, his last role was in an unknown film called Prakash Electronics.
Fardeen Khan
Debut – He made his debut with his father’s Prem Aggan. The film was so bad that it’s good. The film was a disaster. He, however, resurrected his career and made everyone took notice of his acting with Ram Gopal Varma’s Jungle.

Fardeen
Last seen – While in films, he was last seen in 2010’s Dulha Mil Gaya, his latest appearance was at Preity Zinta’s birthday bash. In fact just last year he was made the butt of jokes when he was spotted in public with all the weight he has put on.
Dino Morea
Debut – He made his debut in musical Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi. The film is still remembered for its chartbuster music. And that is the only thing that people remember about it. He however soon returned with blockbuster Raaz, that had his then girlfriend Bipasha Basu in the lead. He was never known for his acting ability, though.
Dino
Last seen – In 2010’s Pyaar Impossible and a special appearance in Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year. He also tasted success as a producer with Sunny Leone’s Jism 2. Nowadays he can be seen at various parties and is instrumental in building open-air gyms across Mumbai.
