Deepika Padukone’s maternal grandfather has passed away. He breathed his last on January 30, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror. Deepika is currently with her family. She was very close to her grandfather. On the first day of new year she had talked about how much she wanted to be with her grandfather. “I celebrated my New Year with my grand parents. Today (January 1) is my grandfathers 95th birthday. Every year I travel abroad to celebrate New Year, but this time I wanted to celebrate it my family especially with him.” Deepika had said in a media interaction, reports India.com. Deepika is reported to be taking a short break from shooting Padmavati. Our condolences to Deepika and her family.
Recently Padmavati sets were vandalised in Jaipur by the Karni Sena. The violent protesters alleged that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has distorted history while depicting Queen Padmini. The director was even slapped and pushed by members of the Karni Sena. Deepika Padukone, who plays the title role in Padmavati, said she was “deeply saddened and disheartened” by the attack on the ace director on the films set. She feels that there is no distortion of history in Padmavati.
“In a state of shock! Deeply saddened and disheartened by yesterday’s events! As Padmavati, I can assure you that there is absolutely no distortion of history. ‘Padmavati’,” Deepika had posted on Twitter. “Our only endeavour is and has always been to share with the world the story of this courageous and powerful woman in the purest form there is,” she added. Apart from Deepika, the film also features Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in key roles.
