After Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil, Taapsee Pannu’s RunningShaadi.com to release in Pakistan

Just a few weeks back Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil released in Pakistan. The Sanjay Gupta directorial did a fantastic business on it’s opening day, earning Rs 75 lacs – and that too without any publicity. According to the trade analysts this is a big number for a film releasing in Pakistan. Now, Taapsee Pannu and Amit Sadh starrer romantic-comedy RunningShaadi.com is all set to run in the theaters in the neighbouring country.
The Pakistan Film Producers Association chairman Syed Noor, on 19th December 2016 lifted the self imposed ban on Indian movies to release in Pakistan which lasted for almost two months. Kaabil was screened in Pakistan on 2nd February, 2017, marking the first film after the Uri terror attack and it’s aftermath. RunningShaadi.com will release in India on February 17th, and soon after that it will open in theaters in Pakistan. Director Amit Roy said, “I think it’s a good way forward because just banning all things that the two nations enjoy about each other is not going to move our relationship forward. We enjoy many of the same things and the people of both our nations are made from the same grain. So why let the politics chosen by the select few determine the common mans desire on either side to communicate and enjoy each other’s cultures. I completely welcome this decision by our friends in Pakistan to release our film and I hope they enjoy this film”.
Adding to his thoughts, co-producer, Vikram Malhotra said, “We are delighted that RunningShaadi.com will release in Pakistan. The film is an endearing entertainer, especially for the youth and I am sure that audience across the world will enjoy this quirky yet meaningful story.”
Also, let us not forget that Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan starrer Raees was also supposed to release in Pakistan last Sunday. But the censor board in Pakistan found the content of the film objectionable, and first stalled the release of the Rahul Dholakia directorial gangster drama. Then reportedly, banned Raees in Pakistan. Just a couple of day before the tentative release Mahira Khan had said in a video conference that people in Pakistan are super excited to for the release of Raees.
Well, that is a loss that Pakistan won’t get to see a movie like Raees. But on the brighter side, at least the authority there is not being as stringent as in India. The release of Kaabil and RunningShaadi.com paves way for a new friendship between the two countries. Don’t you think so?
