Bollywood is totally divided over Indian Motion Pictures Producers
Association (IMPPA)’s decision to ban Pakistani artistes like Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar from working in Bollywood, following
the Uri attacks. IMPPA had taken the hard decision following political
pressure and general public fury with our neighboring country, but the
ban is temporary till the issue is solved between both India and
Pakistan. The decision, however,has not gone well with Fawad and
Mahira’s Bollywood colleagues, with the decision dividing the industry
into three camps – Those who are with the ban, those who are against the
ban and those who are sitting on the fence. Celebs who belong to the
first camp are Nana Patekar,Randeep Hooda, Anupam Kher etc. Salman Khan,
Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan, and surprisingly Pahlaj Nihalani belong in
the second camp, while Varun Dhawan, Fawad’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil co-star
Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan are sitting on the fence by by pushing the
onus on the government to make the right decision.
The legend of Bollywood is still basking in the critical and commercial success of Pink, going by all his tweets. Even apart from these, he has time to tweet about various social campaigns like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. But he hasn’t tweeted anything about the ban on Pakistani artistes, though he was happy over India’s surgical strikes.
Aamir Khan
The usually socially aware Aamir Khan has chosen to remain silent over the fracas, thanks to one past scalding experience, when he spoke about intolerance in India. He is still being slammed for that statement of ‘wanting to leave India’ (even though that was said by his wife, not him). Also he might have heard how Salman was getting trolled for not supporting the ban, so for him ‘silence is golden’ for now.
Shah Rukh Khan
Like Aamir Khan, even Shah Rukh Khan had been a victim of the intolerance row. However, his standing is quite different from Aamir, owing to the fact that his next three releases have one Paki star at least in the cast. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. in which SRK has a cameo, has Fawad and Imran Abbas. Dear Zindagi has Ali Zafar, while Mahira Khan play his wife in the much anticipated Raees. So we are actually waiting as to when King Khan will break silence. And what will follow after that…
Priyanka Chopra
She may be quite busy with her Hollywood assignments, and we are not be sure if she is gonna do any Bollywood anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean she is not keeping any tabs on what’s happening in Bollywood. So her silence over the whole issue is very mystifying, since she is always known for speaking straight from the heart.
Sonam Kapoor
Fawad Khan made his Bollywood debut with Khoobsurat opposite Sonam Kapoor, which was produced by her sister. So in a way she was responsible for bringing Fawad Khan to Bollywood. Last year, she had spoken about her views on banning Paki artistes when she was promoting Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. But not this time. Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra had both co-starred with Fawad Khan in Kapoor & Sons. While Sidharth Malhotra was totally against the ban on Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt was unusually quiet over this. Is she fearing another round of getting trolled after her gaffe at Koffee With Karan years ago?
Hrithik Roshan
