Salman Khan finds support from firebrand BJP MP Yogi Adityanath!

Under attack for his comments in support of Pakistani actors working in Bollywood, Salman Khan has found an unlikely ally in firebrand BJP MP Yogi Adityanath, who too has said India’s fight is against terrorists and “not against art and culture”. “Our fight is not against art and culture, it is against terrorism,” Adityanath said here yesterday replying to a query on the latest controversy surrounding the Bollywood actor.

Adityanath, who is also the head priest of Gorakhnath Peeth, voiced his views on the issue during an informal chat with reporters after the inauguration of a ‘Jan Suvidha Kendra’ at the railway station here. After the Pakistani actors were given a 48-hour “deadline” by the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to leave the country in the wake of the Uri terror attack, Khan had said they (Pakistani filmstars working in India) were “artistes and not terrorists”, evoking sharp reactions from various quarters.
Salman Khan has been getting flak from all quarters for his statement in support of Pakistani artistes. MNS chief Raj Thackeray slammed him in an interview to Times Now saying, “Ek baat humein samajh mein aani chahiye ki humare jo jawaan hai, jo sima ki suraksha kar rahe hai, Pakistan ya unke soldiers ke saath koi personal dushmani to hai nahi na. Wahan pe woh mar rahe hain, unko goliyan lag rahi hai aur unko jo goliyan lag rahi hai woh filmi goliyan nahi hain. Woh asli goliyan hai. Salman Khan ko jab goliyan lagti hai, baad mei khada ho jata hai woh.“ (We need to understand something. Jawans are protecting our borders. They don’t have personal rivalry with Pakistani soldiers. They are dying there, getting shot. And the bullets shot at them are not filmi. They are real ones. When Salman Khan gets shot in films, he stands up after it.)
Singer Abhijeet also lashed out against Khan for his statement hinting that he was not a true patriot. Bollywood is divided over the issue of ban on Pakistani artistes and actors like Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Varun Dhawan and John Abraham have complemented the army on the surgical strikes.
In fact, even Shiv Sena’s secretary Sanjay Raut lashed out against Salman Khan. “When the country is in peril and there is prospect of war against Pakistan, his father Salim Khan should put his Salman under house arrest, because one doesn’t know what he will say when and insult his father,” Raut told the media. “No one in his (Salman) family has died for the country, therefore he keeps blabbering. Even taking morchas (protest march) to their homes have no impact,” Raut also said.
