Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor: Bollywood heroines turned producers

B town actresses like Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma are now expanding their horizons and going ahead with new and different aspects of filmmkaing. After acting, they are now focusing their attention towards production and direction

Gone are the days when heroines were content with just acting. Now, they want to experiment with filmmaking and dabble in direction and production as well. So it’s not justthe heroes who are turning producers like Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, our B-town beauties are not lagging behind. Deepika Padukone we hear is all set to mark her debut as a producer. A source revealed to BollywoodLife that the actress even amidst her busy schedule is reading scripts. Deepika is currently prepping for her film with Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, Padmavati. The actress will also be promoting her Hollywood debut film xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage on Salman Khan’s hit reality show Bigg Boss season 10. But it’s not just Deepika here are a few other actresses who have ventured into film production…

Taking note of current market scenario where movies are making huge profits, it is sensible enough to launch their production houses and produce good movies under their banner. Another reason to have your own production house is the creative freedom you get that comes with it. Many a times we have heard critics suggesting that a particular actor or actress should try attempting a different genre? But most of the times, the actors are not at fault since they are not offered any unique movies thanks to their already established image. At such times, it s advisable that the actors make out of the box movies.  Keeping this in mind, our Bollywood ladies are slowly but steadily venturing into production and they seem to do well. Right from Sonam Kapoor to Anushka Sharma, actresses have produced movies under their banner and the results have been quite good so far.

Sonam Kapoor

The actress entered into the production business with her sister Rhea Kapoor and has produced movies like Aisha and Khoobsurat. Though Aisha tanked at box office, Khoobsurat did pretty well. Sonam’s chemistry with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan created a strong buzz and this worked in her favour. The movie was one reason behind Fawad becoming an overnight sensation in India. Post the success of this movie, Sonam is now gearing up for her next release Veere Di Wedding which too will be produced under her home banner. The movie that also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhaskar in lead is an out and out chic movie and first of it’s kind in Bollywood. The movie will go on floors this month and will later resume shooting when Kareena gets free post her delivery next year. Interestingly, she was in talks to produce Battle of Bittora which was to star Fawad Khan and herself. However the movie got shelved.

Anushka Sharma

Anushka made a good start to her production house Clean Slate Films after producing NH 10.The actress and her brother manage the production house. Probably to give it a good buzz, Anushka decided to star in the movie with Neil Bhoopalan and the result was quite good. The movie was critically acclaimed. This was one of the strong roles portrayed by actress in her career till now. It was a bold decision on her part to start her own firm so soon. She’s merely few years old in the industry and taking such a giant step deserves an applause. Keeping the success of NH 10 in mind, the actress is all set to produce her next movie Phillauri opposite Diljit Dosanjh.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka’s production company is named as Purple Pebble Pictures and the house recently started off with their first Punjabi movie. The actress sure knows how to keep herself occupied. While PeeCee is juggling her career between Hollywood and Bollywood, the actress has also aimed to divert her attention towards the other aspect which is a wise decision. The actress has decided to go with regional movies instead of Bollywood ones. After producing a Punjabi movie, she has produced a Bhojpuri and a Marathi movie. In fact, the actress recently unveiled the trailer of her Marathi production Ventilator which stars Ashutosh Gowariker. 

 Lara Dutta

Lara launched her production company Bheegi Basanti soon after her marriage to tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi in 2011.Her first attempt as a producer was successful with Chalo Dilli. Though the movie didn’t have any big stars in it, it left an impact on the audiences. Vinay Pathak’s comic timing and a novel script, made the movie a success at box office. While there is no official confirmation , reports suggest that the sequel to Chalo Dilli is also in the pipeline

 Preity Zinta

Preity was unsuccessful when it comes to the success of her production venture. The actress who is now an entrepreneur now with her IPL team had the same fate as her cricket team. Her first production Ishkq in Paris tanked at the box office. We heard that the actress had high hopes from it but the delay in the movie’s release made it suffer. There are no reports yet which suggest she’s planning to produce  other movie anytime in future but we are sure, the actress is busy reading different scripts.
