Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh’s Phillauri will earn Rs 10 crore over the first weekend, reveals trade expert
Our trade expert predicts the first weekend collections of Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh's Phillauri...
After Trapped, Machine, Aa Gaya Hero and Beauty And The Beast failed to set the cash registers ringing, Anushka Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh’s Phillauri is all set to try its luck at the box office.
For those of you who don’t know, Phillauri is about Kanan (Suraj
Sharma) who has to marry a tree to get rid of the threats (shani) to his
love-life. However, little does he know that the tree is actually the
spirit of Shashi (Anushka),
who has some unfinished business in the world. What follows is
hilarious as Kanan tries to help Shashi fulfill her deeds. With such an
interesting story line, we expect the movie to do well at the box
office. But with a niche release, how well will it do? To know more, we
contacted trade expert, Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor), and
here’s what he had to say…
Talking about the pre-release buzz, Akshaye mentioned, “The buzz around Phillauri is pretty decent. Obviously, it is not going to be a Rs 100 crore blockbuster because it has got a niche appeal. But it is looking like an interesting tale with a sweet story and so, it will have an audience. You need interesting stories to be told and if Phillauri is one, then it will find an audience.”
Apart from the buzz, Akshaye also mentioned how Phillauri will get a limited release. From his reckoning, the movie should get around about 1000 screens. With such a small release, obviously the first weekend figures won’t be huge. However our trade expert believes that a positive word-of-mouth publicity will help the movie sustain over the coming few weeks and hence help recover its money. Talking about the first weekend collections, he added, “I think the film will make Rs 3 crore at the box office on day one. And it is a decent figure, considering that it is not a massy film. It has a niche appeal and has a limited release. Over the weekend, it should do around Rs 8-10 crore, which will again be decent.”
Apart from Phillauri, we also have Swara Bhaskar‘s Anaarkali Of Aarah releasing this week. And while it looks interesting, the movie will also have a very limited release, in around 500 screens only. With a low buzz and such a small release, Akshaye feels that the movie will earn Rs 1 crore over the first weekend in the best case scenario.
In the meanwhile, Akshaye believes that Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania will continue its magical run at the box office. As Akshaye added, “Yeah, with limited screens, it (BKD) will continue its run. It has done well over the second weekend, so exhibitors will hope of getting some more returns over the third weekend.”
