3 lessons learnt from the failure of Fan, Baar Baar Dekho and success of Dear Zindagi – read details
Here's why Alia Bhatt's Dear Zindagi was successful, while Shah Rukh Khan's Fan and Katrina Kaif's Baar Baar Dekho failed at the box office...
Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt‘s Dear Zindagi
was one of the most exciting films of the year and it has lived up to
everyone’s expectations. The film has not only been loved by many but it
has also earned a lot of money. In 7 days, Dear Zindagi has earned Rs 47 crore nett (67.11 crore gross) at the domestic box office. On the other hand, BIG films like Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan and Katrina Kaif‘s Baar Baar Dekho have failed to make any money at the box office. So, what are the 3 lessons learnt from the failure of Fan, Baar Baar Dekho and success of Dear Zindagi? Let us tell you
# Content is the King
We have time and again told you that content is the king. The story of the movie should flow in a way that keeps the audience intrigued or entertained. You need to know what will interest the audience and what will not. People are very smart today, so they won’t accept a flawed film. They would spread a negative word of mouth publicity, which would put the film down. So if the film is not up to the mark like in the case of Fan and Baar Baar Dekho, it will obviously fail at the box office.
# Budgets- Less is more
We see many films have HUGE budgets. Take Baar Baar Dekho for example, the movie was made on a budget of more than Rs 50 crore. To earns Rs 50 crore is a tough task. And you saw how BBD could only manage to earn Rs 31.24 crore in its lifetime run. So the directors and producers should spend their money keeping in mind the potential of the film. A Bombay Velvet was made on a budget of more than Rs 100 crore, but it earned only Rs 35 crore. On the other hand, Dear Zindagi was made on a budget of Rs 35 crore and it has already earned Rs 47 crore in 7 days. So any filmmaker or studio should plan a film’s budget well.
# Limited release is fine too
Everyone thinks a film should have more than 3000 screens to earn huge bucks. But we can prove that a small or limited release is fine too. Take the case of Baar Baar Dekho, Fan and Dear Zindagi. BBD and Fan were released in 2000 plus screens, but they could not even make a small profit. The former could earn just Rs 31.24 crore, while Shah Rukh Khan’s film had collected just Rs 84.10 crore. Both the films flopped and could not even recover their cost of production. On the other hand, Dear Zindagi has earned Rs 47 crore in just a week. The film had just 1200 screens, nearly half the number of screens that BBD and Fan had. And still DZ was profitable. That means, limited releases are profitable too!
So these are the 3 lessons learnt from failure of Fan, Baar Baar Dekho and success of Dear Zindagi. What do you guys think? Tell us about your thoughts in the comments section below! Also check out the public review for Dear Zindagi right here:
