Aamir Khan‘s wish has come true. Dangal has got the tax free status in Uttar Pradesh, something which will definitely help its box office collection. It is a very important sector for this film as it is based on Haryana wrestler Mahavir Phogat. Given the setting is from North India, a tax-free status will help the film get good gains in that region. Aamir had said in a press conference during Dangal promotions, “I think Dangal falls in the line of tax exemption. We will be applying for tax exemption, but I am not someone to decide on that. It will be the decision of each state government. We will try to make it happen before the release, but it is a process. It may or may not happen.” Fortunately for him, the UP government made his wish come true if not anyone else
We told you how given the fact that Dangal has received a U certificate, it is more suited for the tax exemption. Kulmeet Makkar, chief executive officer, Film and Television Producers Guild of India, had told Mid Day, “The different state governments occasionally grant entertainment tax exemption on the basis of the subject of the film, with the objective that it is seen by a large number of people including the audiences from smaller cities.” So with a U certificate, Dangal is eligible for the same since it will reach majority of audience. Plus, it talks about empowering women, letting them make a mark in a sport dominated by males – wrestling. We are pretty sure it will only be time before other state governments also declare it tax free.

Dangal is a story of a Haryana wrestler Mahavir Phogat who wanted to win gold in the game. But when his dream couldn’t become a reality, he made sure his daughters managed the same. He went against his village to make his daughters world class wrestlers. The film of such nature should get all kinds of privileges because it highlights an important point – women are no less than men. December 23 is thus eagerly awaited as Dangal is slated to release on that day.
