Taapsee Pannu: You don’t need to be an A-lister to do good work

Taapsee Pannu talks about facing rejections in Bollywood

 

 

Taapsee Pannu doesn’t only play strong female parts in films but her characters are an extension of the strong woman she is in real life. Proof? Her tell-all interview with Movified.com where she has not only brought out the dark side of the industry to the fore but also hit out at the nepotism and the sick Bollywood norms that exist in the industry.

She tells, “We are brought up in a patriarchal society and we live in a male chauvinistic world, there is no need to sugar-coat that. Everywhere we (female actors) have a burden of being like a particular heroine, only then you will be an A-lister. You have to look this way, you have to do these type of movies and act with these stars only then you will be an A-lister.”
She also reveals that she has faced the brunt of not being able to make it to the A-list of heroines. “I have been rejected for the smallest of things. I have been told I can’t do a role because I am not an A-lister. Even designers don’t want me to walk for them, because I am not an A-lister,” she told the portal.
But then again, Taapsee has been a part of big ticket projects opposite A-list heroes like Akshay Kumar and now Amitabh Bachchan. Ask her about that and she affirms, “It’s too good to be true to be playing a title role so early in my career, when I am not even at the top. I am very real and practical about the fact that I am not an A-lister right now. But, what I want to tell people is that you don’t need to be an A-lister to do good work. That is the reality of today’s time and Hindi cinema; and I am a living example of that. You can act with Mr Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and even play a title role, if you are good at your job.”

In an interaction with IANS Taapsee Pannu says she had to “keep the cold” for a few scenes in the forthcoming film “Pink”.
She says while filming a scene, set in a courtroom, Taapsee was caught by a viral bug and was under heavy medication. She even requested her production team, especially the film’s co-producer Shoojit Sircar, to allow her to dub her voice later.
But the producer strongly felt that the illness would add more authenticity to her role of a woman on trial.
For those scenes, Taapsee had to look pale and sound tired.
