Priyanka Chopra is on the verge of global domination. She is so far the most known Bollywood celeb in Hollywood all thanks to her successful stint as Alex Parish in TV series Quantico and her upcoming big summer blockbuster Baywatch. From winning People’s Choice Awards to presenting at Oscars to appearing on the show with Jimmy Fallon to presenting at Emmy’s, she indeed is winning the World. And the latest achievement for her is being the host of Global Citizen Festival, along the likes of Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Salma Hayek Pinault, Chris Martin etc. She spoke to a leading daily regarding her campaign and life.
On her success and her motivation to keep going forward, she said, “I keep setting higher standards for myself. I’m my own competition. I’m someone who takes the bull by the horn — my career and life are examples of that. My aim is to raise the bar and shatter the glass ceiling. I’ve always believed that no one can tell you that you can’t do something. I don’t know where I’m heading but I just want to keep walking.” she said, when asked about breaking the glass ceiling
When asked about her stand on equality, she responded, “It’s astonishing that we’re in 2016 and, even today, women are looked down as second-class citizens. When women achieve something, it’s received with so much surprise! The gender disparity is unbelievable, especially in India.”
“People discriminate against their daughters and it saddens me because I come from a family where there was no such disparity. My father always let me do what I wanted to and didn’t expect me to conform to stereotypes. My grandmother used to tell me that I would never get married because I didn’t know how to make paranthas. Luckily, my dad would tell her, ‘She doesn’t need to know how to cook; she’s going to change the world. So, I will send a cook along with her.’ I hope that people start treating their daughters as symbols of honour. We should give women the opportunity to stand on their feet and change the world.”
When asked about her TV show and her plans back home in India, she said, “I’m shooting in New York and will return to India only in December. Once I wrap up the second season of my TV show, I will pack up everything in the US and come back to Mumbai. I am feeling very homesick.”
Also, as reported by BollywoodLife earlier, she will soon be announcing her next Bollywood and Hollywood project, towards the end of this year.
