Sanjay Dutt to play an Army officer in Torbaaz!

The actor is going to start shooting for the film in Afghanistan next year…

After it was revealed that Sanjay Dutt is a part of Marco Bhau, Munna Bhai 3, Dhamaal 3, a Mahesh Majrekar film and a Siddharth Anand film; we thought that the actor was done signing films and he will not start shooting for them. However, looks like the actor has bagged another film that people would love to see. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Sanjay has signed up for Girish Malik’s next – Torbaaz, where he will an an embittered army officer whose life changes after he comes across a few child suicide bombers. But this won’t be the first time he will be playing an army officer. He has reprised the role a few times, most notably in LOC Kargil.
For those who don’t know, Girish Malik is best known for Jal. After a two-year hiatus, Girish is making his comeback with Torbaaz, which is an action-thriller set in Afghanistan. It shows how young children are being trained to become suicide bombers across the world. The kids are taught that killing is a virtue and there is glory in the afterlife. How Sanjay Dutt sees this serious issues and tackles it forms the rest of the film. Girish had a few ideas after Jal, but a phone call from Pakistani cricketer, Rameez Raja a year ago changed everything. Rameez described an army officer to Girish who had lost all hope till he finds a new purpose in some Afghani children prepping for war. As Girish revealed to the tabloid, “Rameez wanted to weave cricket into a story about reformation and I’ve played along.”

A few months back, Girish had a meeting with producer Raju Chadha (Chairman of Wave Cinemas) and filmmaker Rahul Mittra (CEO of Wave Cinemas) for the film. The duo believed Sanjay Dutt was their best match for the role of an army officer and hence they approached the actor. As Girish reveals, “We met Sanju baba on Thursday, he loved the script and immediately gave a go ahead admitting that he has become choosy about his projects. We were amazed at how organically he blended into the world of Torbaaz, he’s an extremely intelligent and evolved actor.”

Torbaaz will go on floors in mid-2017 with the first schedule taking place in the Middle-East. It will later be shot in Afghanistan too. In the meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt is starting with Marco Bhau by the end of this month. He has been training very heavily for the film and has made a good, athletic body too. He will also start shooting for Munna Bhai 3 and Dhamaal 3 by the start of next year.
