Katrina Kaif receives The Smita Patil Award looking ravishing in a green desi outfit – view pic!

Katrina Kaif has bagged the honourable Smita Patil award and the honour seeks to recognise Hindi actresses for their contribution towards cinema. While there was a bit discussion before if she should get the award, it now seems like the actress is indeed a correct choice since she fits the rest of the norms aptly.

 

 

 

Katrina Kaif who was nominated to receive the Smita Patil award for this year, has finally bagged the honour today by the hands of honourable Minister of Road transport, Nitin Gadkari.
The award is usually given to one contender every year who has made some notable contribution to the Hindi cinema. We were a bit taken aback when her name was announced this year, however we decided to ignore our inhibition and instead be happy for Kat’s latest possession.

Katrina Kaif who was wearing a green and gold heavy embroidered dress for the occasion looked as ravishing as ever.  Apart from this award, Katrina has previously won over 21 awards including FHM World’s Sexiest Woman, Hello Hall of Fame Entertainer of the Year award and also the Rajiv Gandhi National Award, not to be confused with the National Award given by the Central government. So while there was an outrage against her name being considered for the award, there was actually no need for any such thing. The award seeks to recognise Hindi actresses for their contribution towards cinema and was first given away in 1987, a year after Smita Patil’s death with Tanvi Azmi (then Kiran) as its first recipient. Over the period of three decades, a lot of actresses have been honoured and most of them have been commercially successful actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Urmila Matondkar, Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and others. Off-beat cinema actresses have not exactly been honoured yet except for Tabu. So If we are asked to follow the strict guidelines when it comes to receiving this award, there is nothing exactly wrong with Kat receiving it. She’s a successful actress and has been in the industry for longest of time.

The only reason why she was trolled for getting this honour was because of her acting talent that differentiates her from Smita Patil. The veteran actress set benchmarks with her acting which are yet to be broken by anyone. Whereas Katrina is always looked down upon as someone who can dance but not act. Her recent performance in Baar Baar Dekho further highlighted the plight of this actress when it comes to acting. But we are sure they might have seen some spark in the lady to bestow her with this honour.
