The film sees another drop yesterday….

Women centric films have hardly been hailed in Bollywood. They were a niche film and they still are the same. But Bollywood hasn’t stopped churning them out which gives hope that the genre won’t become extinct after all. Queen, Mary Kom and Neerja‘s stupendous success have fuelled filmmakers’ resolve to explore this genre some more. Akira released, riding on such great names and if you consider the film’s budget, the film has done a decent job at the box office. The film however, has continued to suffer drop in collections since Monday. After 3. 40 cr first Monday, the film has come down to 2. 40 cr. The total now rests at 22. 45 crore.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the figures on Twitter saying, “#Akira Fri 5.15 cr, Sat 5.30 cr, Sun 6.20 cr, Mon 3.40 cr, Tue 2.40 cr. Total: ₹ 22.45 cr. India biz.” You can see how the film has suffered another dip yesterday. We don’t think there will be any recovery after that. Weekdays are always crucial is deciding a film’s fate at the box office in the first week. From the looks of it, the film might not get out of the drop. Check out the tweet here.
If we go by our Trade expert Akshaye Rathi who had earlier revealed the budget of the film to be around 13 crore or so, Akira’s total isn’t bad at all. In fact, it has already recovered its cost of production and what it earns next will be added as a profit only. Akira might become a game changer of sorts in the industry. That’s because the film doesn’t boast of a superstar in the lead but an actress who has been part of many actioners toplined by Akshay Kumar or Salman Khan. But Akira has her taking on the goons all by her own which is definitely a trendsetter. How often do you see such thing happening at the box office? What also works for the film is employing Anurag Kashyap as the cold blooded mastermind cop whose flair of acting will stun you. We wonder why doesn’t he act often. He is just perfect in his role. But the biggest applause is reserved for Murugadoss for being a very clever director. He knows the strengths and weaknesses of his cast and explored them accordingly. No wonder everyone wants to work with him.
