Tiger Shroff’s failure as a superhero proves Hrithik Roshan owns the genre!

Because box office wants only this light-eyed hunk to save the world and no one else!

Superhero films are something Hollywood can make with the snap of a finger and they won’t go wrong in it. People around the world wait for Marvel to release one or the other superhero films every year. They even have films which have all these superhumans together to do a job they have been doing in every film – save the world. But everytime Bollywood attempted something like this they faulted terribly. Mr. India’s mysterious powers tied to a watch was the first time Hindi films wowed us with the attempt. Since then we only got disappointments from Ajooba to Ra. One. And then Krrish happened and with it we got one of the most successful superheros of India. This also gave people hope that more such films can be made and how wrong they were. The failure of A Flying Jatt at the box office proved why Krrish series is still the most successful superhero franchise of India.

Mr. India – the legacy
There was a Mr. X In Bombay in 1964 which had Kishore Kumar turn invisible and sing haunting melodies to his love. But the earliest memory we have of a superhero was Mr. India where Anil Kapoor vanishes the moment he wears a watch made by a scientist father. He uses this power to save the world. That’s what we grew up watching and loving. While Hollywood had many Supermen, we just had Mr. India and we happily boasted about him. The film even worked wonders at the box office.
The has-beens
Since then, everyone and when I say everyone, literally everyone tried to be a man with superpowers taking on alien enemies. From Amitabh Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan, everyone tried and we saw them fail to make any mark. Bachchan turned into Ajoob but nothing worked. Propelled by Krrish’s success, Shah Rukh Khan jumped out of a game and turned into saviour Ra. One but he needed saving at the end since the film wasn’t anything people had hoped for.
Recently, A Flying Jatt, Tiger Shroff’s third film, who worships Hrithik, had an unusual superhero. A clumsy one who can’t even land on his feet properly after taking flight. He has fear of heights. It was supposed to connect instantly with the kids who can see this clumsy superhero get over his fears and save the world. It even made all the right noises but a bad script and execution ruined it all. In fact, the romantic angle didn’t work. The film has managed to earn only 35. 60 crore so far.
The ultimate Bollywood superhero
In the midst of all that came Koi Mil…Gaya, at a time when people were calling Hrithik Roshan a one-film wonder after back to back flops post his blockbuster debut Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hain. Many called it a copy of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. but nobody cared because it got the superhero formula just right. We agree we can’t really call it a superhero film since there wasn’t any but it was a start of a franchise which always spelt good money at the box office. The second film in the series Krrish gave India its first successful superhero by the same name and Hrithik Roshan became the dashing man with superpowers we ever knew. The first film was the biggest blockbuster of 2003 by earning 80 crores for a film which was made at a budget of 30 cr. Three years later Krrish released and earned 117 crores while Krrish 3 made 291 crores. With such numbers, the franchise became popular and rich.
This is a clear indication that it is time people let Hrithik Roshan continue with this genre because truth be told, nobody can match up to him in that.
