In a tragic case of serious security oversight, heavily armed terrorists attacked an army headquarters in a town in North Kashmir called Uri, killing 17 of our finest soldiers and leaving 19 other army men injured in the attack. Labelled as the biggest attack on our army by the militants, four terrorists have also been killed in the attack.
As per the army sources, the militants attacked the camp, located barely few metres away from the Army’s Brigade Headquarters in Uri town, 102 kms from here at around 4 AM. The soldiers of the Dogra Regiment, who were sleeping in a tent, were trapped in a fire mishap caused by the ensuing explosions and gunfire, resulting in the death of 17 soldiers.
In a statement to the media, the Army said, “A group of heavily armed terrorists targeted the rear administrative base of a unit at Uri, Kashmir. In the counter action, four terrorists have been eliminated and combing operations are in progress. The administrative base had large strength of troops of units turning over after their tour of duty who were stationed in tents/temporary shelters which caught fire, and resulted in heavy casualties. We salute the sacrifice of 17 soldiers who were martyred in the operation.”
Bollywood celebs like Shah Rukh Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Esha Gupta, Hollywood director Shekhar Kapur, Raees director Rahul Dholakia have condemned the attack on their social networking sites.
