Iru Mugan movie review: Chiyaan Vikram’s LOVE act is better than his RAW agent one – read quick review!

Everyone had been eagerly waiting for Iru Mugan as Vikram would be seen in a never seen before dual act along with Nayanthara and Nithya Menen. The movie opens with a bang! Set in Malaysia, there is an attack at the Indian Embassy, and a 70 year old frail man is responsible for it. On further investigation, the RAW agency discovers a tattoo of love on the man’s back. That’s when the head of the agency explains, this is the work of Love, a criminal who used to operate as a chemical manufacturer in Kashmir. Akhilan (Chiyaan Vikram) an ex-agent exposed him 4 years ago, along with his wife played by Nayanthara. But in this exposition, his wife gets killed, following which his ways turn ruthless and he is suspended. But since he’s the only one who knows how LOVE works, RAW goes in search of Akhilan, who can also avenge his wife’s death on this mission. Ayushi played by Nithya Menen heads the case.

Vikram as the ex-agent appears intriguing at first– a person whose action speak louder than words. But later, his act appears forced. His act as the heartless brute isn’t quite convincing in this average story. It’s open, filled with no suspense. You already know what’s going to happen. Nayanthara and Chiyaan literally have 4-5 scenes, and apart from looking good together, there’s nothing they add to the the story a s aocuple. The flashback story where he reveals how she died to Ayushi, is abrupt and before you even process it, it’s over. Enter LOVE, who has this effeminate vibe about him. He’s suave, stylish and is so confident about himself. And you wouldn’t believe it’s Chiyaan Vikram himself who is playing this role. You might not be impressed by his act as Akhilan, but he lets you forget that with LOVE. Akhilan and Ayushi reach LOVE’s headquarters. Recalling his wife’s death, Akhilan attacks heads on, when he is attacked by someone, who is not LOVE. And guess who that is, It’s none other than Helena, his dead wife! With such a twist in the story, we are hoping for a gripping second half.
