Here’s why Gautam Gambir WON’T watch M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story!
Did Gautam Gambhir take a pot shot at Mahendra Singh Dhoni's M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story?
Yesterday, a tweet by Gautam Gambir created a lot of outrage amongst Indian cricket fans after he took a sort of pot shot against Mahendra Singh Dhoni‘s upcoming biopic – M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. Gautam had tweeted an image with a quote, which read as, “I don’t believe in biopics on cricketers. I think those people, who have contributed more to the country than the cricketers, deserve a biopic. There are lots of people in the country who have done so many noble deeds for the nation. Therefore biopics should be made on their lives.” Many cricket fans were disappointed by his statement. Gautam’s fans supported him, while Dhoni fans trolled him. However, Gautam clarified that he wasn’t against ANY particular cricketer’s biopic but against the concept of such biopics. As he tweeted later on, “My detractors got it wrong. Am not against ANY ONE cricketer’s biopic, am against d very concept which includes a biopic on my life.”
The protest against Gautam died down over night. However, Gambhir might have just put himself into controversy once again. In an interview today, he mentioned how he wouldn’t ever go to watch a biopic on a cricketer’s life. If that is so, he will not go watch his captain’s biopic – M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. During an interview to Hindustan Times, he mentioned, “I would never go to a cinema hall to watch a biopic on a cricketer. I am not a big fan of people making biopics on sportsmen, especially cricketers. I think there are far bigger people who have done much more for the country and films should be made on them. Look at the kind of sacrifices people in the defence services make, no one even remembers them. Why don’t people make biopics on the life of a jawaan or a captain who sacrificed his life for the country? I would never want someone to make a biopic on me. If anyone approaches me, I’d ask them to approach someone who has done bigger things in life.”
While Gambir’s statement does make sense, it might just tick off captain cool – MSD coz Gautam might not see his biopic. Every friend supports the other, but when you go on a public platform and bash the concept of biopics on cricketers, that too when your friend’s movie is coming up, isn’t a good idea. In fact, Dhoni and Gambhir were good friends, but looks like they have moved away after he was dropped out of Dhoni’s favoured list of players.
Anyway, talking about the film – M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, we will see Sushant Singh Rajput playing Mahendra Singh Dhoni in this Neeraj Pandey directorial. We will see Dhoni’s journey from a Train Ticket Examiner to India’s best captain till date. We will also see the hidden side of Dhoni – his love story. Disha Patani will be playing MSD’s first girlfriend (Priyanka Jha), who dies in a accident while he is on tour. How he then meets long lost friend – Sakshi (played by Kiara Advani) and they eventually get married, will also form up a portion of the story.
The film releases on September 30 and while we know you guys must be excited to see the film, tell us about your thoughts on Gambhir’s latest statement in the comments section below!
