Baahubali 2 will dethrone Dangal to become the highest grosser of Indian Cinema, trade predicts

When Baahubali released in 2015, nobody thought that the film will become this grand. The fact that the Hindi version alone earned over Rs 100 crore proved that it is one-of-a-kind movie. And mind you, it had to fight it out with Salman Khan‘s Bajrangi Bhaijaan within a week of its release. Despite all that it earned over Rs 600 crore worldwide. No wonder that the sequel is getting such unprecedented response even when there is still one more day to go before it actually hits the theatres. Trade has even predicted as to what the future holds for this film, and trust us when we say, Dangal will have to leave its top spot for this SS Rajamouli war epic! According to trade expert, Akshaye Rathi, the film will possibly amass Rs 900 crore in its entire run worldwide.
When asked if Baahubali 2 will be able to beat Dangal and become the highest grossing film in Indian cinema, Akshaye answers in affirmative. “If you look at the figures of all languages combined, then yeah! If you take into account the current highest grossers, there’s PK which did incredibly well in Hindi but in Telugu, it didn’t do even a fraction of the same. Now if you look at Robot, they did huge business in Telugu but they did hardly anything in the Hindi market. But Baahubali 2 is going towards making Rs 250 crore in Hindi alone and the same in Telugu too or more. I am talking only domestic here, overseas is completely different. Domestic, as I see it, Baahubali 2 could earn Rs 600 crore or more nett. in all languages and overseas again Rs 200 crore plus,” Akshaye predicts. So does that mean it will earn Rs 800-900 crore at the box office towards the end of it all? “Yeah. And it’s theatrical only,” says a confident Akshaye.
Dangal had earned Rs 700 crore worldwide and it seems likely that Baahubali 2 will manage to go beyond that.
