Kangana Ranaut’s Miss Julia brings legal trouble for the makers of Rangoon

It has been oft reported that Kangana Ranaut‘s character in Rangoon, Miss Julia, is said to be inspired by a popular yesteryear actress in the ’40s, Fearless Nadia. The makers of Rangoon have denied this a few times, but the similarities just couldn’t be missed including that still where Kangana Ranaut is seen holding a whip, a pose that had been something Fearless Nadia has often been associated with. Now this similarity might cause legal trouble to the movie, if reports are to be believed.
According to a report in Mid-Day, the tam behind film production company Wadia Movietone Pvt. Ltd. are looking to sue director Vishal Bhardwaj and the producers of Rangoon for copyright infringement. Roy Wadia, on behalf of his company, has put a claim on the character of Kangana Ranaut in the movie, which they resemble Fearless Nadia. They even say that the Julia’s catchphrase ‘Bloody Hell’ belonged to Fearless Nadia, whose actual name was Mary Evans and she was an Australian stunt actor.
Hear’s an old clip of Fearless Nadia…
We do wonder how Vishal Bhardwaj will get out of this legal mess, especially since the movie is just a few days away from release. While we do understand why the suing production company feels they are on a higher ground in this matter, we do wonder why did they have to wait till the last week of the release of the movie so that they can push their claim. That Fearless Nadia inspiration was always talked about ever since the first look of Kangana Ranaut in the movie was revealed.
Rangoon also stars Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. It is a love triangle set against the backdrop of World War II, and will release on February 24.
