BARC Report Week 37: It is not Kavach but Brahmarakshas that has somewhat replicated Naagin's success on TV!

BARC Report Week 37: Not Kavach, it’s Brahmarakshas that has matched Naagin’s success!

The success of Naagin on Colors last year set a lot of goals for channels and makers alike. Mouni Roy and Arjun Bijlani’s supernatural saga stayed on the top slot for the entire season. The channel benefitted immensely and Naagin shows were mandatory on every maker’s list. When it went off air in June, it was replaced by Kavach…Kali Shaktiyon Se. The show was expected to replicate Naagin’s success but that did not happen. However, the ho-hum TRPs of Kavach did not deter Ekta Kapoor. She was back with another supernatural offering, Brahmarakshas on ZEE TV.
The show was launched on August 8 and a month later is the numero uno show in the country. It has topped the Urban + Rural sectors, takes the second spot on Urban sector and is on the fifth place for the Rural spot. We agree that it did not pick up like Naagin but its rise is steady and consistent. Brahmarakshas was not launched with as much fanfare as Naagin. It is the comeback vehicle of Krystle Dsouza who let go of Kasam…Tere Pyar Ki to do this show as it was more adventurous and fun. Aham Sharma is a good actor and his charm has worked in the drama.  n fact, Bollywood Life had asked Aham if he felt the show would be as successful as Naagin. The actor has replied confidently that he felt the show had the potential. Well, Aham you’re quite the soothsayer! He stated, “I would definitely love it to be as successful as Naagin. I feel we have the potential. As actors, we are loving the script ourselves as we don’t know what to expect next. I feel the hard work of the creative team was given results. At the same time, even actors can push the creative team to do better and better.”
It seems like the teamwork has paid off. People are liking Parag Tyagi as the Brahmarakshas. Moreover, the performances of seasoned actors like Kishwer Merchantt and Rakshanda Khan has also helped the show. Seriously, Kishwer plays Aparajita with a finesse, which can give lessons to many screeching onscreen vamps.
The narrative is pretty engaging and it does not have the excessive corny quotient that marred Kavach. They have kept it as a show for families. Brahmarakshas has fended off competition from  The Kapil Sharma Show and Dance Plus 2 to emerge as the top show. It just shows than an interesting story can compensate for almost everything. Stay tuned for more updates on Bollywood Life…
