The actress plays the titular character in the film…

The recently released romcom affair Happy Bhaag Jayegi was set in Pakistan. Despite all Pakistani characters being shown in a positive light, the film was banned in Pakistan. However, upcoming release Noor won’t face any such issues. Reason? The film’s Pakistani setting has been changed to India.

“Noor is based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz’s novel Karachi, You’re Killing Me!. The light-hearted book tells the escapades of a young Karachi-based journalist Ayesha Khan. Sonakshi Sinha is reprising this character for the screen. While she is called Noor in the film, the setting has changed from Karachi to Mumbai. It is an entirely different demographic that Noor is dealing with now,” informs our source.
The book is a bittersweet, tongue-in-cheek tale of the life and times of a single young woman Ayesha attached to her profession as a journalist, who doesn’t mind hanging out with her friends and seek true love. “Well, this one-line plot could have been in Karachi, Kolkata or Kansas. There is no difference that would be made to the film’s storyline or narrative,” informs our insider.
The source continues, “The book did have some mild shock value as it spoke about booze, one-night stands and Page 3 anecdotes set in Karachi. Which could just as easily be set up in Mumbai as well. It was a no-brainer for director Sunhil Sippy and producer Vikram Malhotra to move on from Karachi to Mumbai.”
Confirms Sonakshi, “What we have done is, we have taken the core character from the book. Sunhil wanted to set Noor in Mumbai and that added further realism to the tale. Of course, the convenience of location helped, too. We are now just one last schedule away from wrapping up the film.”
Sonakshi will be next seen in a kickass avatar in Akira. The action film has been directed by AR Murugadoss. The film’s trailer has a few scenes of Akira (Sonakshi) being ragged in college. Talking about Sonakshi said at a recent event that she got ragged in real life in college. “Ragging is touched upon greatly in the film (‘Akira’). I feel that I did go through it in SNDT (Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University), which is an all-girls’ college but it was a way of making friends with each other,” Sonakshi said.
“Till today, people who ragged me or I ragged my juniors, we are still friends. I think it should be an enjoyable process to everyone and not something that traumatises a student or a child for life. That’s something which needs to be taken care of” She further added.
