Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati Row: Sonam Kapoor requests Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stand up for Bollywood

Films inspired by historical characters or stories have always had to face more than just criticism in the country and Sanjay Leela Bhansali also got a taste of it recently. Celebrities have been tweeting and posting their support to the director after he got beaten up in Jaipur outside the sets of Padmavati. Members of Karni Sena stalled the shooting of film at the Jaigarh fort by not only disrupting the magnificent film set but by also manhandling Bhansali. According to reports, the activists of the local organisation are protesting against allegedly distorting the historical facts in Padmavati. They claimed that Ranveer Singh recently mentioned about a love-making dream sequence between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone).
Sonam Kapoor is also one of those celebrities who came out in support of the director. The actress posted a screenshot of an old tweet by Narendra Modi that said,” Art can’t have any restrictions or limits.” Now this is not the first time this tweet has been used as a reminder to the audience and political parties. Sonam captioned her post saying,” A gentle reminder sir… a couple of days after republic day if we as an industry have to deal with such humiliation for expressing ourselves , it’s frankly very disheartening . Please stand up for us.. #padmavati”.

Check out her post here.
This is not the first time that a celebrity has quoted this tweet by Narendra Modi. Celebrities had used this tweet during the Udta Punjab fiasco, too, to show their support for the film. Though none of the actors from the film have commented on this incident yet, people from the industry have been showering the director with their support. Well, if this is the situation during the shoot of the film, we wonder what will happen during the release. What are your thoughts on Sonam’s post?
