OK Jaanu box office collection day 3: Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur’s film fails to beat the first weekend collection of Aashiqui 2
Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur's OK Jaanu collected Rs 13.80 crore at the end of the first weekend at the domestic box office...
Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur‘s OK Jaanu has opened decently at the domestic box office, but looks like it has failed to beat their last film together – Aashiqui 2. Shraddha and Aditya’s Aashiqui 2
was one of 2013’s biggest hits and it helped establish these actors in
Bollywood. In fact, their sizzling chemistry was something that people
loved. So when OK Jaanu released, people expected it to beat Aashiqui 2‘s first weekend collections easily. However, that hasn’t been the case. OK Jaanu has collected Rs 13.80 crore in the first weekend, as compared to Rs 20.50 crore that Aashiqui 2 had earned. This clearly means the former has failed to beat the latter.
Many will argue that OK Jaanu released in just 1400 screens and in the second week of January and hence it had a low opening. But the buzz around the movie was huge. And considering the fact that Aditya and Shraddha were going to be seen together onscreen after 4 years was also a huge advantage for the film. The film was also a remake of Tamil hit – O Kadhal Kanmani. People would obviously want to go see OK Jaanu and compare the two. But even though the occupancy was decent, the film could not match up to Aashiqui 2.
There are a few reasons why OK Jaanu could not perform so well. First of all, the screenplay wasn’t that great and hence, the film got mixed critical and public reviews. Apart from that, the first India versus England match played a spoilsport for OK Jaanu on Sunday. The word of mouth publicity is also average, so trade does not expect huge numbers from the movie. In the meanwhile, we expect xXx: Return of Xander Cage to perform better. Aamir Khan’s Dangal is also a mild threat to both the films.
Will Shraddha – Aditya’s latest venture prove to be a hit? Will OK Jaanu prove to be a good start for these stars? Watch this space for more updates…
