Hrithik Roshan is SELFLESS to another level, reveals his Kaabil co-star Yami Gautam – watch video
Yami Gautam is one of those underrated actresses who is waiting to make it BIG in Bollywood! She has come a long way since she made her Bllywood  debut five years ago with Vicky Donor. And looks like she has finally got her big break with Hrithik Roshan‘s Kaabil. The actress not only plays the lead role, but will get a chance to show off her acting skills as she essays the role of a blind girl in the movie. Kaabil is all set to hit the screens on January 25. So before that, we met the gorgeous actress and while chatting we spoke about a lot of things. From talking about Kaabil as a life changing experience to gushing over Hrithik Roshan, Yami revealed a lot of things. Check out the excerpts and our exclusive video interview with Yami Gautam right here…
Firstly Yami, we have to say that Hrithik and you together look beautiful. Do you think that a film with two of the most talented actors of Bollywood is the best way to celebrate your five years in the industry?
I don’t think I will say that I am closer to Hrithik at all. His talent, his aptitude, his attitude is unmatchable and inspiring. I don’t think I am around that but what I can say is that, it feels amazing to get such a platform. We have finished the film and we all are promoting the film and we still have the same feeling, which is happiness. Promotions can get taxing and tiring, but when you still don’t get tired talking about it, again saying the same things 100 times more, then we are good. Of course, why not. Regardless to any number attached to me, in fact I haven’t even thought about it, I feel Kaabil is amazing.
You play a blind character in the movie. What was the toughest thing about playing your part?
Everything was challenging, but I think the dance was very very challenging because he (Hrithik) is the best dancer. To be able to match half of what he does, you need to give in more than double of what he puts into it. And he works really, really hard. Then it was a new form of dance – Tango. To learn that first and then add the blind factor to it (was tough). And then even if I knew to do a step perfectly, you had to add a li’l bit of imperfection to it and yet be co-ordinated, that was quite a challenge.
Did Hrithik and you prepare together for the film?
To start with every actor has their own individual prep work. I did my own research, I met very few of such people. I watched a lot of videos, watched movies and YouTubed certain videos by channels which are run by blind people. They keep uploading videos about their day-to-day activities (which I used to see). I also had a coach. He told me that, “We won’t go very technical because that is a team work that you need to do with Sanjay sir, Hrithik and all of them. I will tell you what not to do, which is the stereotypical acting which we are used to seeing.” I also believe it (the stereotypical acting) was fine for that era, but we are in a time where we all like being real and like seeing what we can connect with. So it was very important to bring the truth out and the truth is that there is no sorry feeling, there is no sympathy that they yearn for. Rohan (Hrithik’s character) and Supriya (Yami’s character) are also fun loving, they dance, they sing, they are independent, they travel on their own and they are in love. So a lot of notions at the personal level were also tackled. Then after that we all had our raw material and then we used to meet together on set and weave it out all together.
What’s one thing that you’ve learned from Hrithik while working Kaabil?
There are so many things. He has had a very inspiring influence on me and I really mean it because I have worked so closely that I know the reason why he is loved by every generation. It’s not like sometime someone is loved by female fans or guys. He has been loved by kids to people who are 70-80 years old. The reason for that is simply that he doesn’t seize to learn. He doesn’t come some sort of baggage that, “I am a superstar.” He has no air around him. He is very simple. He is working for the craft, love for it and passion. He is selfless to another level.
There’s enough talked about RaeesKaabil clash, but you seem very calm and composed about it all. What is your take on this big box office fight?
What I have to say and what I am feeling and what everyone on this side has to say is that when a film is made, it is made with so much love and passion and hard work, then why not promote it that way. Coz that is what translates and that’s what the audience catches. These things (clashes) are for others to write about. For us it (Kaabil) means heart and it means much more than such small things (clashes).
