Akshay Kumar to make sanitary napkins in R Balki’s Pad Man

Akshay Kumar is having a really great time with his career. Most of his movies are working well at the box office, with his three releases in 2016 – Airlift, Housefull 3 and Rustom – have all done 100 crore plus business at the box office. Above all, they all belonged to different genres. Now Akshay Kumar looks to continue the same trend in 2017, as he has not one but four releases this year, and each of them looks so different from the other. He is also getting to work with directors with whom he has not worked before Like Subhash Kapoor (Jolly LLB 2), Shree Narayan Singh (Toilet –  Ek Prem Katha), Shankar (the bilingual 2.0), and now R Balki.
Now R Balki and his combination is very interesting and exciting since R Balki is known to make slice of life kinda films that are hatke and have quirky titles (Cheeni Kum, Paa, Ki & Ka). So his next with Akshay also follows the same trend in having a very different title in Pad Man. No, it’s not s superhero spoof movie as such, but is actually based on a true incident going by the poster. It’s said to be biopic based on as the India’s ‘Menstruation Man’, an epithet given to Arunachalam Muruganantham. Born in Tamil Nadu, Arunachalam is a social worker who found an innovative way to make cheap and affordable sanitary napkins for the women in his village, thus earning that nickname. This also earned him a spot in the 100 Most Influential People in the World and he was awarded Padma Shri in 2016.
Akshay Kumar will, of course, play the lead in the movie while his Thank You co-star Sonam Kapoor will be the leading lady. R Balki’s regular collaborator Amitabh Bachchan will also have an important role to play in the movie, the shooting for which will resume soon.
Akshay Kumar‘s first release of 2017 will be Jolly LLB 2, where he plays a small town lawyer, taking over the role from Arshad Warsi who did the role in original.
