Last week, we saw the trailer of Rangoon and many of us were blown away by the sheer intention behind the project. Rangoon is touted to be a Casablanca like love story set against the backdrop of World War II. The movie is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, and stars Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles. From what we gathered from the trailer, the movie is set during the mid ’40s when British army was fighting Germany and Hitler on one side, and Japan on the other. Kangana Ranaut plays a movie actress called Julia, who is based on the real-life popular actress in the forties known as Fearless Nadia. Saif Ali Khan plays a movie director who is in relationship with Julia. He sends her off to Rangoon at the behest of the British army general to entertain the Indian troops stationed there. Shahid Kapoor plays a soldier in the army who is assigned to protect her. Needless to say, these two indulge in a passionate romance, that complicates the lives of all the three players involved.
Now the trailer showed Kangana Ranaut being romanced by both the male leads. While Saif Ali Khan’s romance with her had more shades of manipulation and dominance, Shahid’s romance with Kangana has some animalistic raw energy. And of course, Kangana Ranaut gets to smooch both the leads.
So we asked our viewers about which pairing you you liked the most in the trailer – Kangana with Saif and Kangana with Shahid? We expected our readers to vote for the Kangana – Shahid pairing, because that was more conventional, while Saif’s character had some negative shades. As you can see, Saif-Kangana combo got more than 50% votes, while Shahid-Kangana pairing got nearly 44% votes.
