Hey Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Hrithik Roshan, here are 9 Hollywood rom-coms that need a Bollywood remake ASAP!
Bollywood has given us quite a lot of romantic films. Many can even be considered to be romantic comedies. Take for instance Kal Ho Na Ho, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and many more.
Bollywood has given us quite a lot of romantic films. Many can even be considered to be romantic comedies. Take for instance Kal Ho Naa Ho,
Dum Laga Ke Haisha and much more. Filmmakers have literally flooded the
library with romcoms. Romance is like the much needed extra butter on
every Bollywood film. I know, the metaphor sounds utterly zany but
that’s how the films here work. Even a film like Dishoom has a love
angle when it’s supposed to be an out-and-out action film. Yet, they
have been incomparable to some of Hollywood’s heartwarming and funny
works. So here’s our list of rom-com movies that Bollywood should
definitely remake to recreate the magic with our stars! We’ve also
suggested a cast that would fit the roles perfectly!
Hrithik Roshan–Priyanka Chopra
We have seen so many films in Bollywood talk about love lost. Perhaps here’s another angle to a love story we have got to tap! Can you imagine Hrithik as the charming Matthew McConaughey? Because we sure as hell can! Priyanka can totally ace the sassy, strong headed and extremely gorgeous Kate Hudson’s persona in the film. Agreed?
Bridget Jones’ Diary
Bhumi Pednekar, Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor
Bhumi has done it once and will definitely ace it yet again as a chubby girl. The only difference being, she will be caught between two insanely handsome men. Not that we’re stereotyping her or anything but she is quite the kind to get into the skin of the character. Saif is obviously Hugh Grant because hello, casanova! He can totally play the irresistible Daniel Cleaver. And Shahid, well, who can play Darcy (Colin Firth) better than him? Plus, that’ll be one fresh pair for us!
Notting Hill
Aamir Khan-Deepika Padukone
Every girl who has watched this film has welled up at the scene where Julia Roberts stands in front of Hugh Grant, asking him to love her (see what we did there?). DP has played a celebrity before and basically all her adult life too, so being Anna Scott wouldn’t be a hard task. In fact, she would do the role so well, we’re sure it’ll match up to the way Julia had played the role. Aamir, as her love interest, William Thacker, can easily be the simple bookstore owner. He has portrayed so many roles before that being the boy-next-door would be a piece of cake for him!
50 First Dates
Salman Khan–Jacqueline Fernandez
Somehow Salman manages to do justice to Adam Sandler’s films more than anyone else in the industry. Not that anyone else has tried to do a remake but we bet it would be challenging for them. The story of 50 First Dates itself will strike a chord with the romantics. It’s a sweet, simple tale of two people, of which one suffers from memory issues. Having said that, we are really rooting for Jacky to play Drew Barrymore. She would totally nail the role!
Crazy Stupid Love
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor
This astute parallel tale of love is so good that it needs a Hindi remake! And guess what, we can literally envision the cast we’ve thought of, play the characters. Ash could be Julianne Moore (duh), Anil Kapoor can be Steve Carrell, her husband, Alia could be Emma Stone (because they’re too alike) and Ranbir could be the hot hunk, Ryan Gosling. Damn, can you picture Ranbir and Alia do the dirty dance finale jump? Because we sure as hell can.
10 Things I Hate About You
Ranveer Singh-Anushka Sharma
Filmmakers, let’s stop with the sappy love sagas and make some wildly awesome rom-coms for teens? Like this piece of art. 10 Things I Hate About You is meant for Ranveer and Anushka as Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger) and Kat Stratford (Julia Stiles) respectively. They’re both actors who have shown vigour in their performances and look damn hot together too. What do you say to that?
500 Days of Summer
Rajkummar Rao-Kangana Ranaut
Time to get over the done-to-death rom-coms that don’t have anything original. Here’s one of the best rom-coms of all times, 500 Days of Summer. Every person who watched this flick has connected with it in some way or other. Summer’s (Zooey Deschanel) quirks can easily be portrayed by Kangana Ranaut. She has played a similar character in Tanu Weds Manu, so it’s no rocket science for her. The guy whose life is wrecked, thanks to Summer, Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Lewitt) is a role we see Rajkummar ace. He and Kangana make an unconventional pair, which is very much necessary for the plot. Not to forget what a brilliant actor Rao is.
Groundhog Day
Shah Rukh Khan-Katrina Kaif
With Groundhog Day, we’re actually giving Katrina Kaif the kind of ending we expected from Baar Baar Dekho. Whatever went wrong with BBD, can be done right with this film. Bill Murray is trapped in a time loop, there’s a lot of laughter followed but with the right kind of sentiment. We’ve seen Shah Rukh play a funny guy in many of his films. However, in Groundhog Day, he would actually be able to play his witty self with HIS kind of humour. It won several accolades and we’re hoping that if this film is remade here, it would garner the same praise and love from the audience!
Proposal
Arjun Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor Khan
They’ve played a couple before in Ki and Ka. Once again, they could play a ‘pretend married’ couple with Bebo as the ambitious Margaret Tate and Arjun as the cheeky-yet-passionate, Andrew Paxton. Heck, we’re onboard for this project! If only someone remade this movie in Bollywood!
