Meet the top 5 newsmakers of the week:
Deepika Padukone to star with Salman Khan in Kick 2
BollywoodLife revealed to you exclusively that Deepika Padukone will be seen romancing Salman Khan in Kick 2 for the first time ever. A source close to the development revealed to us exclusively, “Deepika Padukone is being considered for Kick 2 with the film going on floors sometime next year. As Jacqueline and Salman are already working together in Race 3, it only makes sense to give audience a fresh pairing. However, the final call is up to Sajid and Salman.” Read the full report here.
Kangana Ranaut reveals Bollywood’s Double Standard
During the promotions of her upcoming film Simran, BollywoodLife caught up with Kangana Ranaut and asked her about Preity Zinta’s exclusive statement to BollywoodLife where she stated that, “A woman in power in India is a bitch or a whore…” Considering Kangana is a self made woman and she is indeed a woman in power, so is her character in the film Simran who is an independent woman, living life on her own terms, I asked her about her thoughts on the same. She said, “Of course Preity has her own experiences and it’s not hard to understand why she said that.” She further added that, “A woman who’s rich and Independent, you always hear people say this, ‘Oh she’s slept her way to success’” Watch the video here and read the full report here.
Simran and Lucknow Central release
The week saw the release of Kangana Ranaut’s Simran and Farhan Akhtar’s Lucknow Central.
BollywoodLife in its review of the two films said…
Simran
Kangana delivers yet another award-worthy performance. But we wish the plot did more justice to her versatility. Simran is only a one time watch. Read the full review here.
Lucknow Central
Lucknow Central isn’t a fun watch, it isn’t enlightening, says nothing new and wants you to root for its protagonist without making any effort to help you connect to him. As a film, it fails in its purpose of making an impact. And yet, the novelty of seeing inmates being offered a chance at reformation is refreshing. We certainly need more such stories but yes, they need to be told better too. Read the full review here.
Priyanka Chopra trolled for her comments on Sikkim
In an interview with ET Canada at the Toronto International Film Festival, while promoting her Sikkimese film, Pahuna, PeeCee had said, “Sikkim is a small state in the North-east of India which never had a film industry or anyone who made films from the region. This is the first film ever that’s come out of that region because it’s very troubled with insurgency and troubling situations.” Of course, Twitter didn’t forgive her for this mistake. In fact, even after apologising for the mistake, she was not spared.
Check out her apology below:
My comment, made during an interview at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2017, where Pahuna made its worldwide debut, was misconstrued. I was talking about the Sikkimese film industry and also the subject of the film, where I mentioned how Sikkim was grappling with the refugee situation caused by insurgencies.. I had meant by the ‘neighboring countries’ .. I am fully aware that Sikkim is an incredible host nation (sic) to so many refugees and our film shows exactly that through the children’s point of view… Read the full apology here.
Aamir Khan to turn distributor
According to a report in Mid-day, Aamir Khan is planning to turn distributor. He is apparently keen to be a part of all the aspects of filmmaking and hence, he is setting up a distribution wing under his banner, Aamir Khan Productions. This will not only reduce the cost of distribution for his films, but also increase his profit and return on investment. All this will give him a fatter paycheque at the end of the year.
