Dear Zindagi song Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le: Shah Rukh Khan is a HEART-BREAKER and Alia Bhatt would agree
Dear Zindagi is directed by Gauri Shinde and stars Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kunal Kapoor, Angad Bedi, Aditya Roy Kapur and Ali Zafar.
As the trend of reinventing old Hindi songs is still the rage (Mahi Ve in Wajah Tum Ho, Kaate Nahi Katthe in Force 2), here comes another song that is taken from the yore and given the modern-day treatment. While I am not a huge fan of this practice, I can’t help but get impressed with how the makers of Dear Zindagi have handled their reinterpretation of ’80s song Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le. Picturised both on Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan, with Kunal Kapoor and Anagad Bedi making their occasional appearances, this song is actually quite apt for what Alia is going through in the film, how Shah Rukh Khan’s life coach is helping her get through her life crisis and of course, for the title of the film, Dear Zindagi.
As you know, Ae Zindagi Gale Lage Le is from the tragic movie Sadma, starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, whose climax still depresses me a lot (Hoping that Dear Zindagi just borrowed the song, and not the movie’s ending). The song was composed by Ilayaraja and sung in his mellifluous voice by SP Balasubrahmanyam. The new avatar of the songs is crooned by none other than the hottest singer of the block, Arijit Singh. While I still prefer SP’s voice to the song, what Arijit Singh has done here is not too bad either, especially as the song progresses. But more than the song, it’s the visuals that intrigued me.
The makers of Dear Zindagi have always persisted that Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt are not involved romantically in the film, and that Alia Bhatt will be dating Kunal, Angad, Aditya Roy Kapur and Ali Zafar. However going by the previous songs, I always had a feeling that Alia will fall for King Khan at some point of time. Well, this song definitely gives proper shape to my doubts, as Alia’s gaze towards SRK is definitely full of puppy love. Well, we can’t blame her, for the man is really looking charming with his beard, dimpled smile and those cool Aviator shades. Whether it is romance or whether she is suffering from ‘transference’ – a situation where one falls for their counsellor – is something we can only know when the movie comes out this Friday.
As of now enjoy the new version of Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le…
