Dear Zindagi becomes Alia Bhatt’s 5th highest day 1 opener
Alia Bhatt’s Dear Zindagi is winning hearts for its simple story telling and effective portrayal by Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan and others. The film has earned Rs. 8.75 crore on day one at the box office from just 1200 screens in India. The collections are expected to go upward due to positive word of mouth. The opening day collections are the fifth highest in total of eight films she has done so far. Dear Zindagi has beaten the opening day figures of her debut film Student Of The Year and right behind Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Interesting thing to note here is that her top opener is Shaandaar with Rs. 13.10 crore, which is also the only flop in her four years long career. This year she had three releases with Kapoor & Sons, Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi. And Udta Punjab remains her biggest opener this year followed by Dear Zindagi and Kapoor & Sons.
Check out the list of her highest opening days below:
Shaandaar (2015) – 13.10 crore
2 States (2014) – 12.42 crore
Udta Punjab (2016) – 10.05 crore
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) – 9.02 crore
Dear Zindagi (2016) – 8.75 crore
Student Of The Year (2012) – 7.48 crore
Kapoor & Sons (2016) – 6.85 crore
Highway (2014) – 3.42 crore
The film is made on a budget of Rs. 22 crore with an additional P&A cost of Rs 11 crore. And is a hit due to its controlled budget and strong opening. The film has so far collected Rs 21 crore approx worldwide with excellent collections from UAE/GCC (two days) –  Rs 5.40 crore and USA/Canada (three days) – Rs 5.05 crore.
BollywoodLife in its review of Dear Zindagi said, “Dear Zindagi will definitely appeal to you if you love slice of life film. A little bit of trimming here and there would have been good, and it is not a typical Bollywood movie. However that shouldn’t stop you from not witnessing one of Alia’s best performances and SRK being his charming best.”
