Ranveer Singh has scared everyone silly with his
appearance as Sultan Allaudin Khilji for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s
Padmavati. The poster and the first look of the actor, that was leaked
online yesterday, show him as one of the most menacing characters we
have ever seen on screen. And it is not just his look, Ranveer seems to
be radiating an intensely negative aura in the pictures, which can’t be
achieved through mere make-up and costumes. So, what did it take to
transform the jovial Ranveer Singh to a scary-looking Allaudin Khilji?
Well, a sniff actually.
Ranveer used to sniff an intense ittar to get into the character of the ruthless Sultan that he plays in the film, as stated in a report on The Times Of India. The actor is apparently a huge aficionado of perfumes and was gifted a special ittar by his friend. A perfectionist to the core, Ranveer decided that a whiff of this perfume would be all it would take him to get into the shoes of his character. While obviously, the perfume was only one of the things that helped Ranveer, it seems to be rather important. It so happened that during the shoot of the film, which went on for several months, the bottle of ittar was misplaced and a new one couldn’t be procured soon enough. Knowing how professional Ranveer is, he didn’t let this hiccup cause delays in an already jeopardised shoot of Padmavati. He, instead, thought of the powerful smell of the ittar and got into the character.
However, this isn’t the only example of Ranveer’s dedication. He was, reportedly, completely immersed in the character of Sultan Allaudin Khilji, right from day 1. Such was his passion for the craft that he scared people on the sets as well and the crew kept their distance from him once he got into character, disturbing him only when absolutely necessary. It was also reported that after the shoot of the film wrapped up, Ranveer was seeking professional help to help him get out of the Khilji mode. Well, that’s dedication for you!
